Merupakan sequel dari film TRON (1982), bercerita tentang perjuangan seorang programmer games Kevin Flynn (diperankan oleh Jeff Bridges)yang tersedot ke dalam Main Frame perusahaan (ENCOM) dan dikendalikan secara terpusat oleh MCP (Master Control Program) yg jahat dan gemar memperbudak program2 lain untuk bermain deadly games sesuai aturannya.
Untuk menaklukan MCP dan keluar dari dunia digital diciptakan lah program monitoring bernama TRON, yg membuat gusar MCP karena mengancam kekuasaannya di dunia digital, di dalam Main Frame ENCOM.
Dalam TRON 2 : Legacy (kadang disebut TRON: Legacy saja) diceritakan bahwa Kevin Flynn (tetap diperankan oleh Jeff Bridges) terkurung selama 25 tahun di dunia digital dan anaknya yg bernama Sam Flynn (diperankan oleh Garret Hedlund) mencoba menyelamatkan sang ayah dan membawanya keluar dari dunia digital (cyber universe) yang semakin canggih dan makin berbahaya
